ABOUT

OUR STORY

For nearly half a century, we’ve been growing some of the tastiest kumara up in the North of New Zealand.

HISTORY

Fieldco is a family-owned and operated business located in the sunny Kaipara, near Dargaville – ‘The Kumara Capital of New Zealand’. Our farms are situated in what is undoubtedly the best micro-climate for kumara growing in the country.

Since 1976, three generations of the Simpkin family have been supplying Kiwis with excellent kumara. We’ve got a combined growing experience of nearly 150 years – so you could say we know our kumara! At Fieldco, we combine generations of local knowledge of the land with evolving technologies to make sure our kumara’s as good as it can be. We’re always growing to meet New Zealand’s evolving needs – just like our kumara.

That’s why, for generations, we’ve been raising seasonal crops that have evolved with the times. At Fieldco, we’re always out to satisfy our customers. For this reason, we make sure to grow what our wholesalers are currently after, and what the market demands.

We’re involved with every step of the growing process, field to plate. We select the right seeds, grow the plants, harvest, store, wash, and pack our kumara, before getting it sent out to hungry Kiwis nationwide. Paddock to plate in the most realistic sense.

Quality

Fieldco Foods has been an NZ Gap accredited Grower for 20 years. That means that when you choose Fieldco, you can rest assured that you’ll get top-quality kumara that looks good, tastes better, and satisfies every time.

“People are increasingly concerned about the origin and safety of their food. They also expect responsible and sustainable farming practices as well as the safety of workers. NZGAP certified producers can demonstrate their commitment and ability to meet these expectations.”

CHARITIES

At Fieldco, we know that community matters. That’s why we’re committed to giving back. We support a range of charities, both local and global, which we know are dedicated to delivering help and hope to those in need.

Rotating

There’s no place like home. That’s why we’re dedicated to protecting our environment.

We rest our paddocks every three years. By rotating the ground we plant on, we prevent the soil from getting too stressed out. This keeps soil nutrients high, and soilborne pathogens low.

Reducing Waste

How we rescue our Ugly produce

We know it’s what’s on the inside that counts. In every harvest, there is always the ‘misfit’ produce that doesn’t meet supermarket specifications for appearance. Whether it’s out of shape, too big or too small – as long as it’s got that same great flavour, we put it to use in our frozen division.
